This connector is a N plug or male clamp style connector. N type connectors are weatherproof and durable for use in a wide and varied applications. The type N connector was developed in the 1940's and is named after Paul Neill of Bell Labs. Clamp style connectors use a wedge ring for securing the outer shielding conductor to the connector body whereas a crimp style connector utilizes a ring that is hex crimped around outer shielding conductor. Clamp style connectors can be reused unlike crimp style connectors but are more complex to install.
